Tyre Care & Pressures

Keep an eye on your tyres! They are the only thing between you and the road.

Handy tips

Check them once a month – simply just walk round the vehicle and look for any lumps or bumps.

Your tyres are constantly in battle with potholes, pavements, debris and more so need to be looked after.

What to look for:

  • Cuts, bulges, lumps

  • Stones or nails

  • Cracking in the rubber

  • Oil

Under Inflated Tyres

  • Use more fuel that necessary.

  • Engine has to work harder

  • Control and road holding affected

  • More likely to become overheated.

  • More prone to damage.

Over Inflated Tyres

  • Prone to excessive tread wear — shortens the tyre life.

  • Handling and response as well as overall vehicle safety affected.

  • Road shocks not absorbed as well.

Changes in Tyre Pressure

  • Some cars require different pressures front and rear. Check your vehicle handbook.

  • The pressure will also need adjusting depending on the load of the car. Check your vehicle handbook.

How to check your Tyre Pressure

TyreSafe advise you to check the pressure of your tyres at least once a month. Most service stations offer this facility for a very small fee. When inflating tyres, check the tyre pressure readings used. Some air gauges use bars, rather than pounds per square inch (psi), and any confusion could lead to burst or over-inflated tyres. Check your vehicle handbook.
